A very young Jello Biafra is interviewed about Dead Kennedys’ debut album “Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables”. I think the best bit of the video is Biafra walking away like an Eagles of Death Metal song. With hindsight i have to say that Jello Biafra looked too good to be punk.

It are the incidents that define a year, but in reality every year is roughly the same.

After three days of christmas/solstice/who-cares-what-you-call-it-let’s-eat, i return to you with another music video.

This one was done by high school students as a project for media class. They deserved a big fat A if you ask me.

I love the drumming at the end of this song. I love the harmonies too. Actually, i like the whole song as much i like the whole album where it came from.

How much do i like the album? That much!

This is song is the first single of Monsoon’s latest album, titled The King Of Eyes Tits and Teeth. Monsoon is a Belgian band who i have been following for quite some time. I really like their dark and powerful music. They are a wonderful live band too, i wish they would do few shows here in the Netherlands.

The last time i was writing about the band i was moaning about how hard it was to buy their albums. I’m happy to say that that problem is completely out of the way now. I just downloaded the album The Weird Zoo, so i can confirm that the ordering system works just fine. The page where you have to fill in your creditcard info is for some reason in French, but for those who use little bit of common sense that is hardly a problem.

The guy wearing the cowboy hat in the video is not a member of the band. His name is Sacha Toorop and he has a musical career of his own. Sadly all the info about him i could find is in French, and my French is… Well just isn’t i’m afraid.

I like the music of Kate Bush a lot. She is a genius. Albums like Never For Ever and Hounds Of Love are among the best album that emerged in the 80′s and The Dreaming is simply a masterpiece thas has been on my alltime favourite list for a long time.

While i love those albums, i always hated the video clips that were always over the top dramatic wise and for some reason Mrs. Bush always looked into the camera like she was about to be overrun by a freight train.

I think that these video’s have done her more harm than good. In fact, i’m pretty sure that it has strengthened the notion among some people that her music is “weird”.

So i chose this live video. If you know the original version of Breathing, it is hard to believe that it could be brought down to a modest piece like the one we hear on this video. And what sinks in is the fact that back in the 80′s, Kate Bush composed music that sounded out of this world, but in reality was based on very earthly mechanics.

Best of all is the bit right after the song. The crowd is clapping and yelling and Kate has a huge smile on her face. It is the sort of scene i can’t remember ever having seen before. Which is weird, since Kate Bush has been a professional musician for 32 years.

I especially love the huge smile on here face when she receives the appreciation of the audience.

After writing about George Baker and his song Una Paloma Blanca (an awful song that took the non-English speaking world by storm), i promised to write about Dutch music ensembles. To be precise Dutch music ensembles that almost got me to commit suicide, because i could not stand hearing their moronic tunes over and over again on the radio.

A promise is a promise, so here we go.

Luv’ was a girl band that was succesfull in the years 1977-1981. The band had three members: Patty Brard the pretty exotic girl, Marga Scheide the pretty blonde girl and José Hoebee, who was the only one of three who could actually sing.

I guess that the video speaks for itself. The song is moronic and the “choreography” laughable. The inventor of Luv’ is Hans van Hemert. Hans van Hemert is one of the producers that defined the musical landscape in the Netherlands. That was great for him and a catastrophe for everyone else who loves music.

At the end of the video we get a glimpse of heaven, because the next song in the show is Man With The Child In His Eyes by Kate Bush. I’ll get back to her tomorrow.

Update: After listening to the video again , i realized that the show was Tros Top 50. So i guess that the hairy scary presenter is Ferry Maat.
