Just like our garden

Messy but cosy. Or can’t you say that when you are referring to a grave? It remains to be seen if all the plants will be as good in a few days from now. My gardening skills are nothing to write home about. But i refuse to plant those easy to maintain bushes that you see on so many graves. I want something cheerful to go to.

The same goes for the tombstone, or better put, tombglass. The idea is to use a 1.20 meter high piece of milk glass as the canvas of an abstract painting of glass with colours that really pop. I also found a painting by Conny of a pair of dolphins swimming around an orb. The dolphin is in some way going to be included in the artwork. Whatever it will look like in the end, it will be a monument that will celebrate Conny’s spirit instead mourning her death.

The studio that is going to make this are run by some very fine people. Not only are they really good in their craft, they also have the empathy and motivation needed to translate my loose ideas into a really good concept. And i know one of them from childhood. So there are a lot of ingredients here that are going to make the process itself as fullfilling as the end product. I will be keeping you updated on how things are going.

Let us move on to something different. Let’s talk  about politics.

Obama in Berlin

I found this picture on the frontpage of the Friday edition of my newspaper. We see Barack Obama right before or after his speech in Berlin. Hundreds of thousands of Germans attended to show him their support for his candidacy for the presidential elections. I find that to be important, because it proofs that the assumption that “Europe hates the the U.S.” is simply not true.

I don’t believe that the policy of the U.S. will change much even if Obama gets elected. The U.S. under George W. Bush have put their neck so deep into all kinds of shit, that it will be impossible to get out all of it in a short period of time. But i do believe that the United States under the leadership of Barack Obama will be able to change both its focus and its tone when it comes to communicating with other countries. That should be reason enough for us Europeans to rekindle our friendship and solidarity with our American allies. Simply because all the other alternatives when it comes to global powerhouses are a lot worse.

If i could wish for anything to come out through Obama’s presidency, than it would be that all my American friends can rely on good medical care in the future, regardless if they can afford it or not. And if that makes me a socialist, i am proud to be one.
