The sleeper awakened

This evening C. and i went to Haarlem’s local rock venue Patronaat to see Uriah Heep play live.

I think it is safe to say that we had a pretty good time.

My throat still hurts. It might have something to do with the fact i was roaring and screaming throughout the whole thing, while shaking my fists like a raging idiot. What the hell did happen to me? Too much beer? Wait a minute, i did not had a single drink until the end of the show. I simply forgot to get one. What was going on there?

Maybe it had something to with the fact that it was the first time is i saw them play in the 34 years since i heard their albums for the first time. As an eight year i played my father’s Heep’s albums so much that in the end the rest of the family suffered acute Heep indigestion. Later on i started to buy my own records moving on from dad’s 60’s and 70’s rock to punk, new wave and indie rock.

Nowadays, hardrock is a bit beneath me. Too “Neurenberg” to my taste. And Uriah Heep meant nothing more than fond memories from days long gone.

But while seeing the band there on stage, going full throttle from the very start and really enjoying themselves, the eight year old Heep fan inside of me came out kicking and screaming. He wanted to FUCKING ROCK!
Do you remember the euphoria you felt after you scored your first goal in a football match? Imagine that feeling going on non-stop for about two hours and you will get an idea how i experienced last nights concert.

If you get the chance to see Uriah Heep, you should. Period. But do yourself a favour first and buy their last album “Wake the Sleeper” and give it a thorough listen. Some of the songs you will like a lot immediately , but after seeing the concert, you will treasure this album from start to finish.

Anyway, this sleeper is awake again.
