Several blogs posted today about the arrival of Wubi, a Ubuntu installer for Windows.
Here is a quote from the Wubi Website:
“Wubi is an unofficial Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other application. If you heard about Linux and Ubuntu, if you wanted to try them but you were afraid, this is for you.”
I think it is a great way to introduce Ubuntu to Windows users who still have cold feet about installing a second O.S. The Wubi method evades a major hurdle for every Linux newbie, which is setting up a separate partition. And while you install it within windows, it does not mean that Ubuntu operates within Windows. Ubuntu runs as an separate O.S that you can select in the boot menu right after restarting your computer.
