After seeing the movie Control, i have been playing a lot of Joy Division for the rest of the week. My all time favourite Joy Division song is 24 Hours, but the best known song of the band is probably Love Will Tear Us Apart.
It might sound strange, but i always found that the original version lacks emotion, it sounds even a bit pragmatic to me. Being a romantic, i expect more from a song like that. I want vocals that are crystal clear, but are sobbing at the same time. I want guitars that sound like bagpipes and of course i want an army of violins.
The cover by Human Drama has all of that and i love it for it. It comes from their cover album titled Pinups. That me reminds me that i haven’t said that i like how they copied the original Pinups album cover by David Bowie.
One More Thing: make sure you have someone to hug right after the song ends. And keep a box of tissues nearby.
