Noah visits Holland

Today i finally caved in to the temptations of Steve Jobs and bought a Mac Book. I’m glad i did because it is really awesome. This the first laptop that i have ever worked with that has a keyboard that is actually comfortable. And yes, OS X is a lot more user friendly than Windows. Maybe i will be posting more about that later. Maybe not, because i bought the Mac Book not for myself but for my better half, who needed a good pc for her own. She goes crazy of all the safety measures that i’ve build in my Windows desktop (anti-virus, firewall, HIPS). Well, you don’t need that kind of stuff with a MAC. You also don’t need that kind of stuff with Linux, but i haven’t been able to find a Linux laptop that is also light and small. It seems that i made the right choice. C. is head over heels with her Mac Book.

I do hope she will allow me to fiddle a bit with it myself, because there are some applications that i find really interesting. For the Stephen Simons out there, Garageband is a very interesting piece of software and a good reason to get a MAC in your studio. For me it is one more reason to mourn my lack of musical skills. Apart from Garageband, there is the video editing and podcasting that is worthwhile to fiddle with. I’m not planning to do any “Vlogging” here, but it might be nice to use for the FM shows now and then.

And i replaced my Pardus Linux intallation for Ubuntu Feisty Fawn. With Pardus i encountered a few problems with Firefox and i wanted to use a distro that has a larger user base and that is better documented. For Ubuntu i found a great book titled Ubuntu Unleashed. For anyone who is new to Linux, this book is a great guide that helps you not only to work with Ubuntu, but also shows how powerful it is. After a few minutes of reading, i was able to update the entire system by typing a few lines in the terminal. I love this kind of stuff.

Some people like to screw around with computers, others get a kick out of carpentry. I don’t know who or why, but someone decided to build a lifesize model of the ark of Noah. Today it arrived in Rotterdam. Which makes sence, since the Netherlands has the reputation of being the modern day Sodom and Gomorra. Anyway, here are some pictures.

I thought about a mac book, but the little I know about computers, I learned on a windows based pc. I don’t think I could handle further confusing myself.

    Congrats on the new mac.

Lifesize model? Based on what? Someone’s biblical imagination?

Aren’t the measurements mentioned in the old testament? But it might not be an accurate model after all, since the guy who builded this one, is planning to buid a second ark that is even bigger.
