Catholism on wheels

Fact 1: this years Tour de France was over 3600 kilometers long.

Fact 2: Apart from the prologue, four stages went through flat terrain, 4 light mountain stages, two time trials and 5 medium-heavy mountain stages.

Fact 3: Floyd Landis’ average speed in this tour was over 40 kilometers an hour.

Floyd Landis used dope? REALLY? Oh me, oh my, what has become of the beautiful sport of cycling?

When are ever going to realize that there is no natural way to compete in the maddest event of the maddest sport in the world? When are we going to free ourselves from the fiction that has been fed to us by the press from the newspapers and radio? Because it was their boloney that became a saga that defined this sport from the early 1900’s until the mid 70’s. The tour (and the Giro and the Vuelta) is trying to live up to that very saga that can only be described as Catholism on wheels. A gospel of pain, suffering and sometimes killing perseverance. When are we going to accept that what we can now see through more and more cameras? The tour has become an inhumane event and it would be hypocritical to be outraged when someone tries to break though his human barriers in order to win it.

Fact 4: Landis has been caught having a too high level of testosterone after his fabulous win on the 17th stage. This was a day after his miserable defeat on the Galibier.

Fact 5: There is no wonderdrug that will help you to get in superform overnight. Injecting testosterone helps with growing more muscle tissue. It does not turn you into superman.

Conclusion: Floyd Landis´ performance on stage 17 and the rest of the tour has been a tribute to the saga that we all so desperately want to believe. He will always be one of my all time favourite winners of the Tour de France.

And the men in power in the world of cycling should start thinking about the future of this sport instead of rubbing their own shit in the faces of their athletes.

And i should be thinking about no longer watching this nuthouse event.
