“We had more posession of the ball”

“We played a better game”
This is just a selection of all the possible whining after a lost game of the Netherlands. It is always the same thing when the Dutch are kicked out of a major tournament. I assume that the comments after Portugal - the Netherlands (1-0) weren’t much different.
I decided not to watch the game after i heard the names of the starting eleven. Kuyt instead of Van Nistelrooy? Van Basten must have been homesick yesterday.
Dirk Kuyt is the kind of guy who must have been brought up with the saying “doing your best is good enough”. And there is no one who works harder then Kuyt. He runs, tackles, runs, shoots and runs some more. But how many goals did he make in his career, where he just stood on the right spot in the right and a simple tap with his right foot was enough to provide the goal?
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, great guy! He runs, tackles, runs, shoots and runs some more. Sometimes he whirls into the box like a windmill from hell and scores a goal. A great striker for PSV untill they can afford a guy who is remotely as good as Kezman. After that, good old Jan will be transferred to Charlton Athletic where he will be long remembered because “he gave 200% every time”.
Those were the ones who were brought into the field to to get pass Portugal, into the quarter finals. Ruud van Nistelrooy was left on the bench.
I know that Van Nistelrooy didn’t play his best matches in this world cup. And i also know that he no longer belongs in the list of the worlds best ten strikers. But he was the best we had in this Dutch team. He should have played. Not that i’m sure that we would have won then. But we wouldn’t have lost the game on forehand
For now i’m looking forward to the qualifications for the European championship. Hopefully we will see a lot of new faces from the U-21 team who just won the title in their Euro championship.

The Netherlands is the best damn football team in the world.
This would mean more if knew what I was talking about but there it is anyway.
