Ajax Write

Nope, i’m not going to yap about how the football club from Amsterdam have reached the final for the national cup. It is about A.J.A.X: Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. And while i’m at it, let me also mention Web 2.0.
Don’t get it? Me neither.

What i do understand is that AJAX is making something possible that is typically Web 2.0: server sided applications.

Why use a system hog like Office when you can use the same programs online? Wouldn’t it be great if somebody else updated your programs for you and that none of these updates would somehow screw up your pc?

Yesterday, Ajax Write was introduced. Ajax Write is a free online text-editor that has so many features that you can almost speak of a word-processor. You can open/save DOC, RTF TXT files and you can even save a document as a PDF file! Very neat. While this program probably will turn out to be far from perfect, this could be a very significant step forward.

The best thing is that the company that is behind Ajax Write are planning to publish a new server sided app ever wednesday for the next eight weeks.

I have been playing with AJAX at work and at home! Very cool stuff!! If you check out my page link above, it is a test page. Once there, click on any of the Blog Archive Links. I use AJAX to make an XML request of the archived file and replace the content in the main What’s Happening box. I was also playing with the +/- to show/hide content. Click on one of the +/- dealies next to links, archives, etc… You will be hearing more and more about AJAX in the coming months. Another slick technology will be Ruby on Rails!! God I love being a freakin geek!!
