Sentenced for life

Today Mohammed B., the murder of Theo van Gogh was sentenced for life. It is the highest possible sentence in the Netherlands.

You can find an article here.

That the political climate has changed dramatically in The Netherlands, becomes clear when you compare that with the sentence for Volkert van der G.
He murdered Pim Fortuyn in 2002 and for that he was sentenced to 18 years of prison, but he probably will be paroled in 2015. There is no hope for parole for Mohamed B.

Both cases are far from similar. Unlike Volkert van der G., Mohammed B. Did not allow his lawyer to represent him in court and he also refused to be psycho analyzed.

But even with that in mind, the differences of the sentences are huge.

The Netherlands has changed. In this case i think the change is for the better. Free speech is a precious thing that needs to be protected with every means possible within national and international law.
